Govt mulls raising Russian Railways’ cargo tariffs by 1–2% in 2018

MOSCOW, Sep 4 (PRIME) -- The government is discussing a 1–2% markup in addition to a 4% increase of cargo tariffs for Russian Railways in 2018, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvrkovich told PRIME on Monday.

“We have not yet made (a decision), we are discussing the topic now. The figures of 1–2% are those which were on the table. But now the Federal Antimonopoly Service has received calculations from Russian Railways, it is analyzing the data, and it will make a conclusion eventually,” he said.

So far, the antimonopoly service is satisfied with cooperation with Russian Railways and with how the company is now working with its costs. “We’ll see the decisions that will be made basing on this,” he said.

In 2017, the company received a 2% markup to a 4% cargo tariff with the aim of spending the money on overhaul maintenance works. Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin said previously that the ministry expects no markup to tariffs of Russian Railways in 2018 because they are unreasonable.
